Eli Hajjar & Soren Hagedorn – City High Middle School – 11/19/2025
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association invited Eli Hajjar and Soren Hagedorn, two students in their senior year of high school, to talk about Orthodox Christianity, how they practice their religion, and their leadership positions at the church as youth ambassadors.
Rev. Igye Su – City High Middle School – 4/2/2025
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association welcomed Rev. Igye Su from the Grand Rapids Buddhist Temple. She talked to the students about how she found peace and purpose in converting to Buddhism, her duties at the temple as Secretary of the Dharma Council, and how she practices meditation in her daily life. She was also kind enough to lead students in a short breathing exercise that taught how we can implement meditation in our own lives.
Rishi Singh – City High Middle School – 5/15/2024
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association welcomed Rishi Singh from the Sikh Society of West Michigan. He talked to the students about his experiences as a Sikh growing up in the United States, his story of how he developed a strong connection to his religion, and his duties as a leader at the local Sikh Gurudwara.
Fred Stella – City High Middle School – 3/20/2024
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association welcomed Fred Stella from the West Michigan Hindu Temple and the Hindu American Foundation. During his presentation, he discussed why he decided to become a Hindu after being born a Roman Catholic, his duties as the Pracharak or Outreach Minister of the local Hindu temple, and his recent trip to India in which he took part in a World Spirituality meditation event.
Anish Kulkarni – City High Middle School – 3/6/2024
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, March 6, 2023, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association invited Anish Kulkarni, a student in his sophomore year of high school, to talk about his involvement with the Hindu community in Grand Rapids and how he contributes to an organization based on Hinduism called the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
Zahabia Ahmed-Usmani – City High Middle School – 2/7/2024
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association welcomed Zahabia Ahmed-Usmani from Grand Valley State University’s Kaufman Interfaith Institute. She talked with the students about how she practices Islam, her recent trip to Oman for an interfaith project, and how her involvement in the interfaith community has helped shape her own worldviews and personal beliefs.
Cantor David Fair – City High Middle School – 12/13/2023
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association welcomed Cantor David Fair of the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based synagogue, Temple Emanuel, to speak to the members of the club. He explained what Judaism is, how he practices it, and what is important to understand about the religion and the Jewish community in our current global circumstances.
Sam Ostrow – City High Middle School – 11/1/2023
GRAND RAPIDS – On Wednesday, November 1, 2023, the City High Middle School Chapter of the Global Citizens Association invited Sam Ostrow, a student in his junior year of high school, to talk about his involvement with the local Jewish community and how he practices Judaism in his daily life.
